Description

A quick and flavorful Thai-inspired dish featuring lean ground turkey and crisp green beans simmered in a savory and slightly spicy sauce, garnished with fresh Thai basil. Perfect for a fast, healthy weeknight meal.

Ingredients

Sauce Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup chicken broth
  • 1/4 cup oyster or hoisin sauce
  • 2 tablespoons low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon chili garlic sauce
  • 1 teaspoon brown sugar

Main Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 pounds lean ground turkey or ground chicken
  • 12 to 16 ounces fresh green beans, trimmed and cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 1/2 cup fresh Thai or sweet basil, chopped or torn into small pieces

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Sauce: In a small bowl or liquid measuring cup, whisk together chicken broth, oyster or hoisin sauce, low-sodium soy sauce, chili garlic sauce, and brown sugar until well combined. Set aside.
  2. Cook the Ground Turkey: Heat a 12-inch skillet over medium heat. Add the ground turkey along with a pinch of salt and pepper. Cook while breaking apart the meat into small pieces, until no longer pink, about 5 to 6 minutes. Once cooked, remove the skillet from heat and drain any excess grease.
  3. Add the Sauce: Return the skillet to medium heat. Whisk the prepared sauce again to recombine and pour it over the cooked turkey. Stir quickly to coat the meat evenly with the sauce.
  4. Cook the Green Beans: Add the trimmed green beans to the skillet with the turkey and sauce. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer. Cover the skillet and cook for 3 to 5 minutes until the green beans are crisp-tender. Extend cooking time if you prefer softer beans.
  5. Add Basil and Serve: Stir in the fresh Thai or sweet basil, mixing well to bring the sauce from the bottom of the pan throughout the dish. Serve immediately. This dish is delicious on its own or served over hot cooked rice accompanied by flatbread or naan.

Notes

  • You can substitute ground chicken if preferred.
  • Adjust the chili garlic sauce amount to control the spiciness of the dish.
  • For a gluten-free version, ensure to use gluten-free soy sauce and oyster sauce.
  • Draining excess grease after cooking the meat helps keep the dish lighter.
  • Use fresh Thai basil for authentic flavor; sweet basil is an acceptable alternative.
