Description
This Marinated Mozzarella Balls recipe features bite-sized mozzarella balls immersed in a flavorful blend of olive oil, fresh herbs, garlic, lemon, and spices. Perfect as an appetizer or snack, it requires minimal prep time and offers a fresh, zesty taste that intensifies when marinated for a few hours.
Ingredients
Marinade
- 3 Tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
- 1 large garlic clove, grated
- 1 teaspoon Italian herb seasoning or oregano
- 1 Tablespoon fresh chopped parsley
- 1 Tablespoon fresh chopped basil
- ¼ teaspoon fine sea salt, plus more to taste
- ¼ teaspoon chili flakes (optional)
- ½ lemon, juice and zest
Main Ingredient
- 2 cups (300 grams) baby mozzarella balls, drained
Instructions
- Prepare the marinade: Combine olive oil, grated garlic, Italian herb seasoning or oregano, chopped parsley and basil, sea salt, chili flakes (if using), lemon juice, and lemon zest in a jar with a lid or a mixing bowl. Shake or whisk the mixture until all ingredients are well blended.
- Marinate the mozzarella balls: Drain the baby mozzarella balls thoroughly. Place them in a mixing bowl and gently toss with the prepared marinade until evenly coated. Taste the mixture and add more seasoning if needed, then toss again to distribute the flavors.
- Let flavors meld: Although you can serve the mozzarella immediately, for the best flavor, cover and refrigerate the marinated mozzarella balls for at least 1 to 2 hours before serving to allow the herbs and lemon to infuse.
- Storage and serving: Store the marinated mozzarella balls in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to four days. Before serving, bring them to room temperature and enjoy with crusty bread for a delightful appetizer or snack.
Notes
- For a spicier version, increase the amount of chili flakes according to taste.
- Use fresh herbs whenever possible for the best flavor.
- Marinating longer than 2 hours will deepen the flavor but avoid beyond 24 hours to maintain mozzarella texture.
- This recipe is great to prepare ahead of time for gatherings or parties.
- Serve with crusty bread, crackers, or as part of a charcuterie board.
