Description
This Homemade Blueberry Syrup is a simple, fresh, and naturally sweet syrup perfect for pancakes, waffles, desserts, and beverages. Made with fresh blueberries, a touch of lemon juice, and thickened with cornstarch, it delivers vibrant flavor in just 15 minutes.
Ingredients
Blueberry Syrup Ingredients
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- ½ cup water
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 2 cups fresh blueberries
Instructions
- Combine Ingredients: In a medium saucepan, whisk together ½ cup granulated sugar, 1 tablespoon cornstarch, ½ cup water, and 1 tablespoon lemon juice until smooth and well combined.
- Bring to Boil: Place the saucepan over medium-high heat and bring the mixture to a gentle boil, stirring occasionally to prevent lumps.
- Add Blueberries: Once boiling, add 2 cups of fresh blueberries to the saucepan, stirring them into the liquid.
- Simmer: Reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer for 4 to 5 minutes. During this time, the blueberries will burst, releasing their juices and thickening the syrup.
- Finish and Serve: Remove the saucepan from heat when the syrup has thickened to your liking. Let it cool slightly before serving over pancakes, waffles, or desserts.
Notes
- Use fresh blueberries for the best flavor, but frozen can be substituted if fresh are unavailable.
- Adjust sweetness by varying the amount of sugar to your taste.
- For a smoother syrup, strain out blueberry skins after simmering if desired.
- Store leftover syrup in a sealed container in the refrigerator for up to one week.
- This syrup can also be used as a topping for yogurt or ice cream.
