Description
Learn how to make healthy homemade Jello using natural juice and unflavored beef gelatin for a nutritious and delicious snack that is free from artificial additives and refined sugars.
Ingredients
Ingredients
- 4 cups of juice (such as grape, apple, or any natural juice)
- 2 Tablespoons unflavored beef gelatin (e.g., Vital Proteins or Great Lakes, do NOT substitute with collagen or protein powder)
- 2 Tablespoons honey, agave, or cane sugar (optional)
Instructions
- Bloom The Gelatin: Pour 1/2 cup of the juice into a liquid measuring cup or small bowl. Sprinkle the gelatin powder evenly over the juice and stir gently to combine. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until it thickens and looks very grainy.
- Heat The Remaining Juice: While the gelatin blooms, pour the remaining 3 1/2 cups of juice into a medium saucepan and heat over medium-high heat until the juice is steaming hot. It should not boil but be very hot to help dissolve the gelatin.
- Melt The Bloomed Gelatin: Add the honey or your chosen sweetener to the hot juice. Then add the thickened gelatin mixture and stir thoroughly until the gelatin completely dissolves. This ensures smooth, firm jello.
- Set: Pour the mixture into a 2-quart ceramic pan or heat-proof containers (8×8, 9×9, or 11×7 inches). Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 3 to 4 hours until the gelatin is completely set.
- Serve & Store: Once set, enjoy your healthy homemade jello. Store in the refrigerator and consume within 4 to 5 days for the best texture and flavor. It may last up to 7 to 10 days without spoiling or breaking down.
Notes
- Use 100% natural juice without added sugars or artificial ingredients for the healthiest result.
- Do not substitute unflavored gelatin with collagen or protein powder as they will not set properly.
- Optional sweetener can be adjusted or omitted based on personal taste and dietary needs.
- Gelatin thickens during blooming, which is essential for the proper texture of your jello.
- Always dissolve gelatin completely into hot juice to avoid grainy texture.
