Description
Crispy and golden fried wonton strips that serve as a perfect crunchy topping for salads, soups, or snacks. These homemade or store-bought wonton wrappers are cut into strips and quickly fried to a delightful crisp, seasoned with kosher salt for enhanced flavor.
Ingredients
Ingredients
- 30 wonton wrappers (store-bought or homemade)
- Canola oil (for frying)
- ½ teaspoon kosher salt (more or less to taste)
Instructions
- Cut wonton wrappers: Stack 5-7 wonton wrappers at a time and use a pizza cutter to slice them into ¾-inch by 3-inch strips. You can cut them thinner if preferred.
- Heat oil: Pour about 1 inch of canola oil into a large skillet and heat over medium heat until it reaches 360°F, ready for frying.
- Fry wonton strips: Add about a quarter of the wonton strips into the hot oil, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry them until golden brown, approximately 1-2 minutes, or until the edges begin to brown. Note that the strips will darken slightly after removal from the oil.
- Drain and season: Remove the fried strips and place them onto a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil. While still hot, sprinkle with kosher salt to taste.
- Repeat frying: Continue frying the remaining wonton strips in batches, repeating the draining and seasoning process for each batch.
- Serve: Enjoy the crispy wonton strips as a crunchy topping for your salads or soups, or as a tasty snack on their own.
Notes
- You can adjust the thickness of the strips to your liking; thinner strips will be crispier.
- Ensure the oil is at the right temperature (360°F) to avoid greasy strips.
- Use paper towels to properly drain excess oil for a crisp texture.
- Season immediately after frying to help the salt stick well.
- Store leftover strips in an airtight container to maintain crispness.
