Ingredients
Truffle Mixture
- 45 Golden Oreos
- 1/4 cup Musselman’s apple butter
- 4 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1 tsp apple pie spice
Filling
- 24 soft caramels, cut in half
Coating and Garnish
- 12 oz vanilla almond bark (6 squares)
- 2 tablespoons crushed Golden Oreos (reserved from above)
Instructions
- Crush the Oreos: Finely crush 45 Golden Oreos using a food processor or by placing them in a sealed bag and crushing with a rolling pin. Reserve 2 tablespoons of the crushed Oreos for garnish later.
- Mix Ingredients: In a medium bowl, combine the crushed Golden Oreos, softened cream cheese, apple butter, and apple pie spice. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are evenly blended into a consistent mixture.
- Form Truffle Balls: Scoop about one tablespoon of the mixture and flatten it slightly. Place half of a soft caramel in the center and fold the mixture around the caramel, rolling it gently with your hands to form a smooth ball completely enclosing the caramel.
- Chill the Truffles: Place the formed truffle balls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Freeze for 15 minutes or refrigerate for 30 minutes to let them firm up and become easier to handle for dipping.
- Melt the Almond Bark: Melt the vanilla almond bark in the microwave according to the package instructions, usually by heating in short bursts and stirring in between to avoid burning.
- Dip the Truffles: Using a fork or dipping tool, dip each chilled truffle into the melted vanilla almond bark, ensuring it is fully coated. If the almond bark begins to harden, reheat in the microwave at 10-second intervals until smooth again.
- Garnish and Set: Lay the coated truffles onto a silicone mat or parchment paper. Immediately sprinkle the reserved crushed Golden Oreos over each truffle before the coating sets, adding a decorative and flavorful touch.
Notes
- Soft caramels can be substituted with caramel bits or homemade caramel candies.
- For a more intense apple flavor, you can add a bit more apple pie spice or a dash of cinnamon.
- Store the finished truffles in the refrigerator for up to a week for best freshness.
- Allow the truffles to come to room temperature for a few minutes before serving to soften the caramel center.
