Description

This creamy Avocado Hummus combines the classic flavors of traditional hummus with the rich, buttery texture of ripe avocados. Blended with chickpeas, tahini, garlic, and a hint of lime juice, it’s a fresh and vibrant dip perfect for entertaining or snacking. Topped with cilantro and red pepper flakes for a flavorful kick, this recipe is quick, healthy, and versatile.

Ingredients

Hummus Base

  • 1 (15 oz) can chickpeas, well drained
  • 3 Tbsp olive oil, plus more for serving if desired
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp tahini
  • 3 Tbsp fresh lime juice
  • 1 clove garlic, peeled
  • Salt, about 1/2 tsp
  • Freshly ground black pepper, about 1/8 tsp
  • 1/8 tsp cumin
  • 2 medium ripe avocados (about 13 oz before cored and peeled)

Toppings

  • 1 – 2 Tbsp finely chopped cilantro leaves
  • Red pepper flakes, to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare the base: In a food processor, combine the drained chickpeas, olive oil, tahini, fresh lime juice, and peeled garlic clove. Pulse until the mixture becomes smooth and creamy, which should take about 2 minutes.
  2. Season and blend: Add salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste, along with the cumin. Then add the peeled and cored avocados. Pulse the mixture again for an additional 1 to 2 minutes until the hummus is smooth and creamy.
  3. Serve: Transfer the avocado hummus to a serving dish. Drizzle additional olive oil on top if desired, then sprinkle with finely chopped cilantro and red pepper flakes for garnish. Serve immediately with pita chips or tortilla chips for dipping.

Notes

  • For a spicier hummus, increase the amount of red pepper flakes or add a pinch of cayenne pepper.
  • Use ripe avocados for the creamiest texture and best flavor.
  • This hummus can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days; the avocado may darken slightly but flavor will remain good.
  • Serve with fresh vegetables or crackers as an alternative to chips.
  • Lime juice adds a fresh tang and helps prevent avocado browning.
