Description

This Asparagus Pizza with Green Pea & Prosciutto offers a delicious spring-inspired twist on classic pizza. Featuring a creamy, herb-infused green pea sauce, tender asparagus, savory prosciutto, and freshly grated parmesan, this pizza delivers fresh, vibrant flavors in just 25 minutes. Perfect for a quick yet elegant meal that satisfies both vegetarians (without prosciutto) and meat lovers alike.

Ingredients

Pizza Dough

  • 1/2 lb pizza dough (homemade or store-bought)

Green Pea Sauce

  • 2 cups shelled green peas (fresh or frozen)
  • 2 garlic cloves (minced)
  • 1/2 shallot (minced)
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 handful fresh mint leaves
  • 2 handfuls fresh basil leaves
  • Pinch of salt and pepper (plus more to taste)

Toppings

  • 6-7 asparagus spears (ends trimmed, thinly sliced or cut in half lengthwise)
  • 6 oz prosciutto (thinly sliced)
  • 1/3 cup parmesan cheese (freshly grated)
  • Fresh basil leaves for garnish
  • Extra parmesan cheese for topping

Instructions

  1. Prepare Green Pea Sauce: Add green peas, minced garlic, minced shallot, heavy cream, fresh mint leaves, fresh basil leaves, and a pinch of salt and pepper to a food processor. Blend the mixture until smooth. Taste and adjust seasoning by adding more herbs, salt, or pepper as needed. Transfer the sauce to a small bowl.
  2. Preheat the Oven: Heat the oven to 550°F (or as hot as your oven will safely go), ensuring it is fully preheated before baking the pizza.
  3. Roll Out Pizza Dough: Lightly flour your work surface and rolling pin. Roll the pizza dough from the center outwards until it is about half an inch thick in a circular shape. Place parchment paper on your pizza peel, gently lift the dough onto it.
  4. Assemble the Pizza: Evenly spread the prepared green pea sauce over the rolled out pizza dough. Arrange the sliced asparagus, prosciutto, and freshly grated parmesan cheese evenly on top of the sauce.
  5. Bake the Pizza: Carefully slide the pizza with the parchment paper onto a preheated pizza stone in the oven. Bake for about 10-12 minutes or until the crust turns golden brown and crispy.
  6. Finish and Serve: Remove the pizza from the oven. Add fresh basil leaves and extra parmesan cheese on top as desired. Slice and serve immediately for the best flavor and texture.

Notes

  • Use fresh or frozen green peas; if using frozen, thaw before blending for best results.
  • To get a crispier crust, ensure your oven and pizza stone are fully preheated.
  • The heavy cream adds richness to the green pea sauce – do not omit for best flavor.
  • You can substitute prosciutto for a vegetarian option or omit entirely for a vegetarian pizza.
  • Thinly slicing the asparagus or cutting lengthwise ensures it cooks quickly and evenly in the oven.
  • Use parchment paper to easily transfer the pizza onto the pizza stone without sticking.
