Description

Slow Cooker Salisbury Steak Meatballs are a comforting, family-friendly dinner that couldn’t be easier to make. With tender, juicy meatballs simmered in a rich homemade brown gravy, this meal starts with frozen meatballs and a handful of pantry staples, making it perfect for busy weeknights. Serve these mouthwatering meatballs over creamy mashed potatoes or egg noodles for a hearty meal everyone will love.

Ingredients

Salisbury Steak Meatballs

  • 1 bag (26 oz) frozen meatballs (about 3035 meatballs)
  • 2 cups reduced-sodium beef broth
  • 1 packet brown gravy mix
  • 1 packet onion soup mix
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

Cornstarch Slurry

  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch (see notes for alternate quantity)
  • 2 tablespoons cold water

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Slow Cooker: Spray the insert of your slow cooker with nonstick cooking spray to prevent sticking.
  2. Add the Meatballs: Dump the frozen meatballs straight from the bag into the bottom of the slow cooker. No need to thaw them first.
  3. Mix the Sauce: In a mixing bowl, thoroughly whisk together the beef broth, brown gravy mix, onion soup mix, ketchup, and Worcestershire sauce until smooth and combined.
  4. Combine: Pour the sauce mixture over the frozen meatballs in the slow cooker. Gently stir to coat all the meatballs in the sauce.
  5. Cook: Cover with the slow cooker lid and cook on LOW heat for 5 to 6 hours, allowing the flavors to blend and the meatballs to heat through.
  6. Thicken the Gravy: When the cook time is almost done, combine cornstarch and cold water in a small bowl to form a slurry. Stir until smooth, then add the slurry to the slow cooker and stir. Allow the meatballs and sauce to cook for an additional 10 minutes, or until the gravy thickens to your liking.
  7. Serve: Spoon the Salisbury steak meatballs and rich brown gravy over mashed potatoes or egg noodles. Garnish with fresh chopped parsley, if desired, and enjoy!

Notes

  • Type of Meatballs: Use any frozen meatballs you like, such as homestyle, turkey, or Italian. Adjust seasoning if using flavored meatballs.
  • Do Not Thaw: Meatballs should go into the slow cooker straight from the freezer. No thawing is necessary.
  • Broth and Sodium: To avoid a too-salty dish, use reduced-sodium beef broth and consider low-sodium gravy and soup mix packets.
  • Adjust Gravy Consistency: For a thinner gravy, use 1 tablespoon each of cornstarch and water. For a thicker gravy, stick with 2 tablespoons each.
  • Serving Suggestions: This dish is best served over mashed potatoes or egg noodles to soak up the delicious gravy.
