The combination of mozzarella, parmesan, egg, and garlic powder creates a golden, flavorful breadstick without any flour or grains.
Ingredients
Cheese Base
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (or a mix with sharp cheddar)
- 1 cup shredded parmesan cheese (or 1/2 cup if using grated)
Binding & Flavor
- 1 large egg
- 1 tsp garlic powder
Optional Garnishes & Serving
- Red pepper flakes, parsley flakes, or Italian seasoning, for garnish
- Marinara or pizza sauce, for dipping (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven – Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and ensure easy cleanup.
- Mix Ingredients – In a medium bowl, combine the shredded mozzarella, shredded (or grated) parmesan, egg, and garlic powder. Mix thoroughly until a sticky, uniform mixture forms.
- Shape Breadsticks – Transfer the mixture onto the prepared baking sheet. Using your hands or a spatula, press it out into a flat rectangle or oval, about 1/4-inch thick, similar to a pizza crust.
- Bake – Place in the oven and bake for approximately 15 minutes, until the cheese is melted and the base looks set and lightly golden.
- Broil for Color – Switch your oven to broil and move the baking sheet to the top rack. Broil for 2–4 minutes, just until the top is bubbling and beautifully golden brown. Watch carefully to prevent burning.
- Slice & Serve – Remove from the oven and let cool for a couple of minutes. Slice into strips with a pizza cutter. Serve warm with optional garnishes and dipping sauce.
Notes
- Swap out half the mozzarella for sharp cheddar if you prefer a stronger flavor—just keep the total cheese amount to 1 cup.
- If you’re using grated (not shredded) parmesan, use only 1/2 cup as it melts differently.
- Feel free to add Italian seasoning or freshly chopped herbs to the cheese mixture for extra flavor.
