Ingredients
Chicken and Vegetables
- 2 tablespoons oil (divided)
- 2 cups broccoli florets
- 1 pound boneless skinless chicken breasts, cut into 1-inch pieces
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
Sauce
- 1/4 cup low sodium soy sauce
- 1/4 cup water
- 1/4 cup honey
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 2 teaspoons cornstarch
Seasoning & Garnish
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Sesame seeds for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Sauté Broccoli: Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the broccoli florets and sauté until they are tender and caramelized, about 4-5 minutes. Remove the broccoli from the pan and set aside.
- Cook Chicken: Add the remaining tablespoon of oil to the same skillet. Cook the chicken pieces in batches to ensure they become crispy and caramelized on the outside, stirring occasionally for even browning. This should take about 5-7 minutes per batch. Add the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.
- Prepare Sauce Mixture: In a small bowl, combine the soy sauce, water, honey, and sesame oil. Stir well to mix all the ingredients.
- Combine and Thicken Sauce: Pour the sauce mixture into the skillet with the cooked chicken. Add the sautéed broccoli back to the pan. In another small bowl, mix the cornstarch with one tablespoon of cold water to make a slurry. Slowly whisk the cornstarch slurry into the sauce in the skillet. Simmer for 1-2 minutes, stirring frequently, until the sauce thickens and coats the chicken and broccoli evenly.
- Season and Serve: Season the stir fry with salt and pepper to taste. Serve immediately, garnished with sesame seeds if desired.
Notes
- Cooking chicken in batches prevents overcrowding the pan, which helps the chicken get crispy instead of steamed.
- You can substitute broccoli with other vegetables like snap peas, bell peppers, or carrots.
- Adjust the amount of honey for a sweeter or less sweet sauce according to your preference.
- For a gluten-free version, make sure to use gluten-free soy sauce.
- Serve this stir fry over cooked rice or noodles for a complete meal.
