Description

This French Onion Beef Casserole is a cozy, family-friendly dinner that combines savory ground beef, tender egg noodles, creamy mushroom soup, rich French onion dip, and a perfect crunchy topping of fried onions. Ready in under an hour, it’s an all-in-one bake that brings comforting flavors and textures with every bite.

Ingredients

Pasta

  • 10 ounces dried egg noodles

Beef Mixture

  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Sauces & Mix-ins

  • 2 cans (10.75 ounces each) condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 (15 ounce) jar Lay’s French Onion Dip

Topping

  • 1/2 cup French’s fried onions
  • Freshly chopped parsley, if desired (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Oven and Baking Pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Spray a 9×13-inch baking pan with non-stick spray to ensure easy cleanup.
  2. Cook Egg Noodles: Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Add the dried egg noodles and cook according to the package directions until al dente. Once done, drain and set aside.
  3. Cook Beef: In a large skillet over medium-high heat, add the ground beef. Cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until fully browned and no longer pink, about 5-7 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste and drain excess grease.
  4. Combine and Mix: Add both cans of condensed cream of mushroom soup and the jar of French onion dip to the skillet with the cooked beef. Stir everything together until well blended.
  5. Add Noodles: Gently fold the cooked, drained noodles into the beef and sauce mixture until all noodles are coated and evenly distributed.
  6. Assemble in Pan: Pour the casserole mixture into the prepared 9×13-inch baking dish and spread into an even layer.
  7. Add Topping: Sprinkle French’s fried onions evenly over the top of the casserole for added crunch and flavor.
  8. Bake: Place the casserole in the oven and bake, uncovered, for 20 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the casserole is heated through.
  9. Serve: Remove from the oven and, if desired, top with freshly chopped parsley for a burst of color. Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

  • This casserole can be made ahead and refrigerated, then baked just before serving.
  • Try adding sautéed mushrooms or a handful of shredded cheese for extra flavor.
  • Leftovers store well in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • This dish is hearty enough to serve on its own, but pairs well with a green salad.
