Description

These sweet and crispy Air Fryer Churro Bites are a lighter take on the classic Spanish treat, made easily at home without deep frying. With a simple dough and a crunchy cinnamon sugar coating, these bite-sized churros are perfect for snacking or sharing. Enjoy them warm with your favorite dipping sauces for an irresistibly fun dessert!

Ingredients

For the Dough:

  • 1 cup plain flour
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/3 cup and 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla essence
  • 1 large egg

For the Coating:

  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon powder

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough Base: In a pan, combine the water, unsalted butter, salt, and sugar. Bring the mixture to a boil over high heat. Once it starts boiling, reduce the heat and gradually add in the flour, stirring continuously to ensure the dough comes together smoothly. When the mixture forms a cohesive dough, turn off the heat and remove the pan from the stove.
  2. Cool and Mix Dough: Transfer the dough to a large mixing bowl and allow it to cool slightly for about 4-5 minutes. Once cooled, add the vanilla essence and egg. Use an electric hand mixer to beat everything together until you have a smooth and uniform dough.
  3. Pipe the Churros: Spoon the dough into a piping bag. Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) and spray the basket with neutral nonstick spray like coconut oil. Carefully pipe bite-sized churros directly into the basket, ensuring they are spaced apart. Alternatively, you can drop spoonfuls of dough for a more rustic look.
  4. Cook the Churros: Lightly brush the tops with butter or spray with cooking spray. Air fry for 10-12 minutes until they are puffed and golden brown. Cook in batches if needed for even results.
  5. Coat with Cinnamon Sugar: In a shallow bowl, mix together the white sugar and cinnamon powder. While still hot, transfer the cooked churros into the cinnamon sugar mixture and toss gently to coat. For better coating, brush with melted butter, spray with water, or use nonstick spray before rolling in the sugar mixture.
  6. Serve and Enjoy: Serve the churro bites warm, ideally with chocolate syrup, honey, or Nutella for dipping. Enjoy them fresh for the best taste and texture!

Notes

  • Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket; work in batches for even cooking.
  • Let the dough cool before adding the egg to prevent scrambling.
  • Add a little more vanilla or swap in almond extract for a different flavor.
  • If you don’t have a piping bag, use a zip-top bag with the tip cut off.
  • Best enjoyed fresh, but can be reheated in the air fryer for a few minutes.
