Description
These Cinnamon Roll French Toast Roll-Ups are a delicious blend of two breakfast classics. Soft bread is filled with a cinnamon-sugar butter mixture, rolled up, and dipped in a rich egg custard before being golden-fried to perfection. They’re easy to make, irresistibly gooey, and perfect for breakfast or brunch.
Ingredients
For the Roll-Ups:
- 10 slices white sandwich bread
- 3 tablespoons butter, melted
- 3 tablespoons brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
For the French Toast Coating:
- 3 large eggs
- 1 tablespoon milk
- ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
For Cooking:
- 2–3 tablespoons butter, for frying
Instructions
- Prepare the Bread: Remove the crusts from each slice of white sandwich bread. Using a rolling pin, gently flatten each slice until thin and pliable.
- Make the Filling: In a small bowl, combine the melted butter, brown sugar, and 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon. Mix well until the mixture forms a spreadable paste.
- Fill and Roll: Spread the cinnamon-sugar mixture evenly on each slice of flattened bread, leaving a small border around the edges. Roll each slice up tightly and seal the edges with gentle pressure so they stay closed while cooking.
- Prepare the Egg Mixture: In a shallow bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon, and vanilla extract until well combined and smooth.
- Preheat the Skillet: Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat and add 2-3 tablespoons of butter. Allow the butter to melt and coat the pan evenly.
- Dip the Roll-Ups: Dip each filled bread roll in the egg mixture, ensuring all sides are coated but not oversoaked.
- Cook the Roll-Ups: Place each roll seam-side down into the hot skillet. Cook for 2-3 minutes total, rotating to brown all sides evenly until golden and crisp.
- Serve: Remove the roll-ups from the skillet and serve warm. Optionally, dust with powdered sugar or drizzle with maple syrup.
Notes
- Use fresh, soft bread for easy rolling and best texture.
- Do not oversoak the roll-ups in the egg mixture to prevent sogginess.
- Keep the skillet at medium heat to avoid burning the outsides before the centers are heated through.
- These can be made ahead and reheated gently for a quick breakfast.
- Freeze leftover roll-ups in an airtight container for up to 1 month.
