Description

This Cinnamon Hot Chocolate is a comforting and cozy beverage perfect for chilly days. Made with melted chocolate chips, cocoa powder, and a warming blend of cinnamon and nutmeg, this rich and creamy drink is enhanced with a touch of vanilla extract. Served topped with whipped cream and garnished with cinnamon sticks or star anise, it’s an inviting treat to relax with any time.

Ingredients

Hot Chocolate Base

  • 1 ½ cups milk
  • ¼ cup chocolate chips
  • 1 tbsp cocoa powder

Spices & Flavorings

  • 1 tsp cinnamon (plus more for garnish)
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch nutmeg

Garnish (Optional)

  • Whipped cream
  • Cinnamon sticks
  • Star anise

Instructions

  1. Heat Milk and Chocolate: In a medium pot over medium heat, combine the milk and chocolate chips. Stir constantly until the chocolate chips have completely melted into the milk, about 5 minutes, creating a smooth, rich base.
  2. Add Spices and Cocoa Powder: Stir in the cocoa powder, cinnamon, vanilla extract, and a pinch of nutmeg. Continue stirring the mixture for another 3 minutes to allow all the flavors to meld and the hot chocolate to become aromatic.
  3. Serve and Garnish: Pour the hot chocolate into a mug. Top with whipped cream, then sprinkle with extra cinnamon if desired. Garnish with a cinnamon stick and star anise for a beautiful presentation and added warmth.

Notes

  • Use whole milk for the creamiest texture, or substitute with any milk of your choice.
  • Adjust the amount of cinnamon to taste if you prefer a stronger or milder spice flavor.
  • For a vegan option, substitute dairy milk with almond, oat, or soy milk and use dairy-free whipped cream.
  • This recipe makes one generous serving but can easily be doubled or tripled as needed.
  • Be careful not to boil the milk to avoid scorching or curdling.
