Description

Indulge in rich, fudgy homemade brownies with a crackly top that surpass classic box mixes in flavor and texture. Perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 ¼ cups unsweetened cocoa powder (or black cocoa powder for a darker flavor)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup chocolate chips (optional, but recommended)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease or line a 9×13-inch baking dish with parchment paper.
  2. Melt butter in a medium saucepan over medium-low heat. Remove from heat and stir in sugar until well combined.
  3. Add cocoa powder, salt, baking powder, and vanilla extract to the butter mixture. Stir until smooth.
  4. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  5. Gradually fold in flour until just combined. Do not overmix.
  6. If using, fold in chocolate chips.
  7. Pour batter into prepared baking dish and spread evenly.
  8. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  9. Allow brownies to cool in the pan before cutting into squares.

Notes

  • For a darker flavor, use black cocoa powder.
  • Add chopped walnuts or pecans for crunch.
  • Try mint extract and mint chocolate chips for a refreshing twist.
  • Swirl peanut butter into batter before baking for a peanut butter swirl.
  • Drizzle caramel sauce and sprinkle sea salt before baking for salted caramel brownies.
  • Store brownies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
  • Freeze wrapped brownies up to 3 months; thaw before serving.
  • Reheat in microwave 10-15 seconds for freshness.
